Alicia Keys Says She Won’t Go Back to Her 20s Because of a Surprising Reason

Most people would choose to return to their younger selves if they could turn back time – but not Alicia Keys, who went as far as to say that she wouldn’t do it even if somebody paid her. Apparently, the singer has a very good reason behind this.

The artist began making a name for herself in the music industry at 20 years old and immediately took the busy scene by storm. ‘Songs In a Minor,’ her debut album, landed the top spot on Billboard 200 and was the reason she won five gramophones.

This was just the start of her colorful career but despite her monumental younger years, Alicia wouldn’t want to return in those days, which she described as the ‘worst time ever.’ Her career was definitely booming at the time, so what gives?

Apparently, those were the days when the ‘My Boo’ singer was so desperate to fit in and when people’s opinions mattered greatly to her. During her 20s, Alicia also suffered a meltdown in a 2006 photoshoot that was about to lead to her breakdown. As such, she decided to turn her back to all her engagements and went to Egypt on a pilgrimage.

Despite what’s happening with her, Alicia continued to release empowering music, including ‘A Woman’s Worth,’ but she admitted that she wrote these partly to convince herself to believe in what she had been saying in her songs. Yoga and meditation greatly changed her for the better.

She has also discovered that humility can sometimes hide away issues of self-worth. Alicia revealed that she began cutting off many blessings in her life, thinking that she only needs a little. However, she eventually realized where she was wrong.

After observing how her husband appreciates beautifully and well-made things, she learned that she can be humble without cutting off things that she deserves. Despite this, Alicia finds it more important to have the ability to connect with other people.

For the Grammy winner, what’s crucial is being able to pause, see, and appreciate other people as we are. Moreover, Alicia underlined how easy people tend to become judgmental of others even when they don’t know them. Her statements were in line with the death of Ahmaud Arbery, who was shot while he was jogging in February.
