Gigi Hadid Was Once Told That She Wasn’t ‘Runway Material’

Gigi Hadid is one of the most sought-after models nowadays and we can all agree that she always slays on the runway. However, despite being the daughter of reality star Yolanda Hadid and famous real estate developer Mohamed Hadid, the 25-year-old experienced a rough start in her career.

You may imagine Gigi scoring major deals when she was just starting to model, but it was actually the opposite. In fact, the stunner had experienced being body shamed long before she became a household name tied to numerous big designer labels.

The celebrity shared her harrowing experience when she was just starting her career after finishing high school. At the time, Gigi said she still had a volleyball body, with muscles and curves, which she greatly loved.

However, despite adoring the body she was in, some rude people told her that she didn’t have the ‘runway’ physique for high fashion. This comment could have adversely affected Gigi and how she looked at herself, especially since she was too young when she received these remarks.

Jean Paul Gaultier was one of the first designers who gave her a chance to walk the runway and not only that, Gigi is grateful to him because he assigned an outfit to her that didn’t cover her entire body. The celebrity admitted that this meant a lot to her as a budding model.

At the time, labels who booked her had stylists that made her wear clothes that covered her athletic body up, so Jean Paul’s move greatly impacted her.

In 2016, Gigi opened up about suffering from Hashimoto’s disease, which is an autoimmune disorder that results in hypothyroidism – this affects a person’s metabolism. She called out body-shamers who judged her and said she doesn’t have the same body as with other models.

Other Stars Who Experienced and Shut Down Body-Shaming

This only speaks volumes about what women go through, whether they are celebrities or not. It also underlines the fact that no one is immune to receiving unsolicited comments about their bodies.

One thing is sure, body-shaming is never right and therefore shouldn’t be tolerated. There are many stars who have called out these naysayers for trying to force them to adhere to society’s beauty standards.

‘Friends’ star Jennifer Aniston once got fed up with the pregnancy rumors spreading about her and wrote an essay about how women are always scrutinized and objectified. Selena Gomez, who underwent a kidney transplant surgery, also had to deal with haters who seemed to have a problem with her scar.

It’s quite hard to believe it but there really are some people who are that mean. However, the singer hit (killed) them with kindness, saying that she takes care of herself because she wanted to and not to please anyone.
